🌲 Favorite Trails & Parks for Kitsap Families

From forest hikes to waterfront strolls, discover the best outdoor spaces Kitsap has to offer

Why Parks & Trails Matter When Choosing Where to Live

When families consider buying a home, they're not just evaluating bedrooms and lot size—they're imagining life beyond the front door.

Where will the kids ride their bikes?
Can we take the dog for a walk before dinner?
Are there nearby trails or open spaces to explore on weekends?

In Kitsap County, our outdoor access is incredible—and it's a major lifestyle selling point. As a real estate agent who helps buyers (especially families relocating to Kitsap), I always say: don’t just tour the house—tour the parks too.

Here are my top picks for family-friendly trails and parks across the area, organized by region.

🛶 Poulsbo Area

1. Fish Park

📍 288 NW Lindvig Way, Poulsbo
🛝 Best For: Nature walks, birdwatching, accessible trails

Fish Park is a local treasure tucked just off the main road. With more than 1.5 miles of crushed gravel trails, raised boardwalks, and wooden bridges, it’s stroller- and kid-friendly. Watch for salmon in the creek or bald eagles overhead.

Real estate bonus: Walkable from downtown Poulsbo homes and a top reason buyers love this part of town.

2. Frank Raab Park

📍 18349 Caldart Ave NE, Poulsbo
🛝 Best For: Sports, picnics, fenced playground

This is the go-to park for soccer games and big family outings. It features sports fields, a fenced-in playground (great for toddlers), and walking loops around the field. There’s even a small pump track for bikes and scooters.

🌲 Kingston & North Kitsap

3. North Kitsap Heritage Park

📍 Access at Norman Rd NE & Miller Bay Rd
🛝 Best For: Trail running, dog walking, peaceful wooded escapes

With over 800 acres of forest and 10+ miles of trails, this park feels like a deep woods adventure—just minutes from town. Great for older kids, teens, and anyone with a love for tall trees and quiet trails. Leashed dogs welcome.

4. Village Green Park

📍 26159 Dulay Rd NE, Kingston
🛝 Best For: All-ages play, splash pad, library access

This is a local favorite for a reason. Village Green has a splash pad in the summer, a playground year-round, and direct access to the Kingston Library. It’s a perfect “run the kids out while I return books” destination.

🌊 Bainbridge Island

5. Grand Forest West

📍 9752 Miller Rd NE
🛝 Best For: Nature immersion, educational walks

With winding, well-maintained trails through old-growth trees, this forest offers a quiet, shaded experience. Kids can climb fallen logs and learn about forest ecology through interpretive signs.

Hot tip: Many Bainbridge homes are just minutes from this trailhead—major perk for island buyers.

6. Battle Point Park

📍 11299 Arrow Point Dr NE
🛝 Best For: Biking, playgrounds, stargazing

This 90-acre park includes a duck pond, two playgrounds (one for big kids, one for littles), wide open fields, and a paved bike/scooter loop that’s perfect for beginners. There’s even a public observatory!

🏞 Bremerton Area

7. Lions Park

📍 251 Lebo Blvd, Bremerton
🛝 Best For: Waterfront picnics, playgrounds with a view

Located right on the water, this park has scenic walking paths, open lawns, a fenced playground, and a recently upgraded dock and shoreline. It’s one of the best spots for sunset picnics or skipping rocks with kids.

8. Illahee State Park

📍 3540 NE Sylvan Way, Bremerton
🛝 Best For: Forest hikes, beach access, camping feel

This hidden gem has tall evergreens, a gentle beach, and rustic picnic areas that feel more like a state forest. Families love bringing lunch and spending the whole afternoon here.

🌻 Silverdale & Central Kitsap

9. Clear Creek Trail

📍 Multiple access points – best parking at 9641 Levin Rd NW
🛝 Best For: Stroller walks, nature learning, creek exploration

The trail is long, flat, and dotted with bridges, interpretive signs, and natural play spaces. Perfect for preschoolers and older kids who like exploring. Watch for deer, birds, and local flora.

10. Old Mill Park

📍 2901 NW Bucklin Hill Rd, Silverdale
🛝 Best For: Beach access, scenic views, peaceful escape

This small park offers a short trail to a rocky beach with stunning Dyes Inlet views. It’s a peaceful spot for coffee walks, quiet reflection, or teaching kids to skip stones.

🐾 South Kitsap & Port Orchard

11. South Kitsap Regional Park

📍 2841 SE Lund Ave, Port Orchard
🛝 Best For: Mini trains, BMX track, massive playground

This park is packed with kid favorites. There’s a full-size playground, grassy fields, forest trails, and (best of all) the Kitsap Live Steamers—miniature trains that run for free on select weekends. Check the Macaroni Kid event calendar for train days!

12. Manchester State Park

📍 7767 E Hilldale Rd, Port Orchard
🛝 Best For: Camping, historic forts, beach day

Explore old military bunkers, scenic trails, and waterfront picnic tables. It’s great for families who love history and the outdoors. You can even spot sea lions from the beach.

📍 How to Use This as a Home Buyer

When you’re house hunting, ask yourself:

  • Can we walk or drive easily to parks?

  • Are there trails or beaches to enjoy after school or on weekends?

  • What does the outdoor lifestyle feel like here?

If you’re relocating from out of the area, this is one of the best ways to truly “test drive” the Kitsap lifestyle.

As your agent, I’ll help you find neighborhoods where nature is just outside your door—and I’ll always have a trail tip up my sleeve.
